October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Throughout the month, various governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, and others will be holding celebrations, special job fairs, and highlighting initiatives that promote the goals of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. This year’s theme is Expectation + Opportunity = Full Participation.

President Obama and the Secretary of Education Arne Duncan released a statement explaining that they are committed to empowering the next generation of Americans with disabilities. The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) will be highlighting various initiatives that have been funded by the government all month long on their website.

Another organization that is honoring NDEAM this month is Ability Links. They are hosting a virtual job fair the week of October 12th through 16th. This is a completely online event that is accessible by both job seekers and potential employers 24 hours a day. It is also free! Employers can put together a virtual booth with a company profile page, job postings, and interactive webinars. Job seekers can post their resume or submit their resume straight to specific employers. Since the event is online, it allows many job seekers to attend that would normally have difficulty with travel, cost, or other hardships that are associated with in-person job fairs.

NDEAM empowers both employers and disabled job seekers by educating and raising awareness surrounding issues like employment law and assistive technology. National Disability Employment Awareness Month was created in 1945 and over the past sixty-four years has helped millions of disabled job seekers find the careers of their dreams!

Awareness about working with disabled individuals is something that should be raised every day. Studies show that only 40% of the working-age adults with disabilities are employed either part-time or full-time. Many disabled individuals are unable to work outside the home, despite having the same qualifications and skill set then non-disabled associates. One company is working to provide employment to individuals living on SSI and SSDI. J Lodge is offering legitimate work from home positions for Americans with disabilities. J Lodge is working with the Ticket to Work Program to offer new opportunities for those on SSI and SSDI. J Lodge is a quality call services company that incorporates an employee model consisting of Americans with disabilities. Employees are able to pursue a work from home, part-time career. J Lodge is currently expanding. They are looking for individuals who are interested in their company and who qualify for positions. If interested, please visit jlodge.com/careers and apply online.
