New Grant Funding to Study Mobility Disability in Seniors
posted on Nov 06 by Stacy in the Disability News categoryIt was recently announced that the University of Florida’s Institute on aging in Gainesville, was awarded $29.5 million in grant support over the next two years. Grant funding will be used to study mobility in seniors as it relates to the ability to walk and live independently, and is the largest clinical trial ever taken to prevent mobility disability in seniors. This group is generally overlooked in large trials.
1600 people aged 79 to 89 will participate in a clinical trial being held at 8 sites across the country. Wake Forest will be coordinating the data management and
analysis.
There is strong evidence that exercise helps in the prevention of disease, and with the aging of the baby boomers, it is important that we address this issue while we still have the ability to intervene.
