Handicap Van Rental Features and Information

All handicap vans for rent through AMS Vans are inspected to be sure you receive a wheelchair accessible vehicle rental that is reliable and comfortable. You will receive a handicap van rental that is side or rear entry accessible, depending on your preference and number of wheelchair users, along with a standard 10" lowered floor, wheelchair tie downs, and a low mileage minivan. Although very rarely necessary, we also install a safety backup for powered ramps in case of an electrical failure.

Rent to Buy

If after renting a handicap van you discover how much you love our handicap vans, we are happy to put 50% of your handicap van rental cost towards the purchase of your very own wheelchair van within 30 days of returning your rental (maximum discount: $2,500). This is a great option if you would like to try before you buy a wheelchair accessible van.

Cancellation Policy

Your wheelchair van rental can be canceled at any time with no penalty. We do request that you let us know about your plans for cancellation as soon as possible so that we may make your wheelchair van rental available for another driver in need.

Returning Your Handicap Van Rental

Upon return of the handicap rental van, the gas tank’s gasoline must be replenished to the level it was at on pickup. If returned at below that level, AMS Vans will charge for its refill, plus charge a $25 service fee. And if the handicap rental van is not returned by the stated time, there is an additional late charge of $25/hour, not to exceed the daily rental rate.

Cleaning Fee

If the accessible van requires more than a routine cleaning (dusting, exterior wash, vacuuming), then a $100 fee for cleaning will be applied.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted in the handicap rental van. A $300 cleaning fee will be applied for non-compliance.

Service Animals

All service animals are permitted. Please let us know ahead of time if you will be traveling with one. The regular cleaning rate of $100 applies for cleaning up after service animals (if necessary.) Customers transporting non-service animals will be subject to a cleaning and damage fee of $150 or more, depending on the interior condition of the van.

Wheelchair Drivers

Wheelchair drivers are eligible as long as the person is able to transfer in and out of their wheelchair into the driver's seat and does not require hand controls.

Multiple Drivers

Multiple drivers are permitted when each driver is listed on the AMS Vans rental contract, has a valid driver's license, and is covered under a primary renter's insurance policy.
