AMS Vans’ WAY COOL ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!
You should be beyond familiar with the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by now. Celebrities like Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Oprah, LeBron James, Conan O’Brien, Bill Gates, Matt Lauer and many others have publicly accepted the challenge to raise awareness of and research money for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and the ALS Association. Once challenged, the individual or company has 24 hours to pour a bucket of icy water over his or her head. Refuse the challenge, and you must make a donation to the ALS Association.
If you don’t think this now-worldwide challenge has made a difference in awareness and donations, consider this: Last year at this time, the national ALS Association had only received $1.8 million in donations. To date, the Ice Bucket Challenge has raised more than $15.6 million and has become a viral sensation. And yesterday, AMS Vans, Inc. contributed $5,000 to the cause. We just started planning this last Thursday. We simply had to do it.
As a national wheelchair accessible van dealership, many of our customers are living with ALS. AMS Vans in Atlanta and our sister dealership in Houston, TX provide year-round support to several disability-related organizations, particularly in our communities. We couldn’t pass up this opportunity for a number of reasons, not the least of which was to see our owner, Kip Crum, take the plunge, and as you’ll see in the video, he did. But just before the dump…
Kip presented a $5,000 check to two representatives from the ALS Association Georgia Chapter. Crystal Jackson and Anita Flowers were on hand to accept the check and enjoy the festivities, which, needless to say, didn’t last long.
The dump was scheduled for 4PM, and it was a sultry Georgia afternoon—hot enough to make a few gallons of ice-filled water cascading from head to toe feel pretty good. Our next-door neighbor, DR Mintz with Stone Center of Georgia graciously loaned us a Bobcat and an operator for the event. There they stood, the managers huddled together under the Bobcat bucket filled with icy H20. After a few remarks and the check presentation, the bucket of the Bobcat began to tip! As you’ll see in the video, we had lots of cameras and smartphone video cams recording the event.
It was a brrrrrrrrrreathtaking moment when the big bucket of a Bobcat dumped gallons of water on our AMS Vans’ managers! Standing alongside the managers were almost all the company’s employees pouring blue buckets of freezing water on their heads at the same time. It was glorious!
With our successfully met challenge behind us, Kip Crum and the AMS Vans, Inc. team challenge Chris Brand of Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC) in Atlanta to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. You must dump a bucket of icy water on your head within 24 hours or make a donation to the ALS Association. However, it’s nice to know that most of the individuals and corporations taking on the challenge and dousing themselves are also making a donation to support ALS research. Have fun watching the video! We had fun making it!
