Look Beyond the Obvious During Invisible Illness Awareness Week

Did you know that 1 out of 2 Americans struggles with a chronic condition? 20% of the population have some sort of disability, which equals about 54 million people. Chances are, you know someone with a chronic, but invisible illness or disability and you may not even know it!

Approximately 96% of people who live with an illness have an illness that is invisible. Many illnesses actually start out invisible and as the disease progresses, they become more visible. How many of you can relate to this? So many out there must understand what it is like to ‘look good’ but actually be feeling miserable! The problem is, that we cannot tell who suffers by just looking at them. Invisible Illness Awareness week is September 14-20, and they are hosting a virtual conference to help both increase awareness and assist those with an invisible chronic condition.

The virtual conference is free, and you can attend from your computer. There will be many speakers, covering topics like applying for disability, dating, eating right, and preparing for surgery. We will be attending the conference and covering it right here on the blog. Many of the conference topics will be very helpful for caregivers and those with a visible disability, too.

If you would like to read more about the conference, check out Invisible Illness Awareness Week’s website. Which speakers and presentations are you looking forward to the most?
