Drive Master Low Zero Effort Steering
Drive-Master provides "low effort" and "zero effort" steering modifications for people with reduced upper body strength or limited arm mobility. These modifications are installed directly into a vehicle's existing power steering system.
How the system works
These steering modifications amplify the effect of the factory-installed power steering assist to reduce the amount of physical force needed to turn the steering wheel. The modifications are performed on the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) steering rack or electronic system at the Drive-Master factory.
Low effort steering
Reduced force
: A low effort system decreases the steering force required by approximately 40%.
Effort level
: This brings the standard steering effort of about 40 ounces down to 20–24 ounces.
Target users
: This level is typically recommended for drivers with arm weakness or slight range of motion limitations.
Zero effort steering
Maximum reduction
: Zero effort steering reduces the force needed by up to 70%.
Effort level
: This brings the standard steering effort down to a minimal 6–8 ounces.
Target users
: This is intended for drivers with more significant impairments, such as those with high-level spinal cord injuries or conditions like muscular dystrophy.
Key features and safety measures
Backup system
: The modification requires a dedicated back-up steering system for safety. In the event of engine failure or an OEM power steering system failure, the back-up system is automatically activated.
Alerts
: The back-up system is equipped with audio and visual alarms that notify the driver of the system's activation and prompt them to pull over safely.
Electronic control (IDS GEN X)
: Drive-Master offers a high-tech system that can fine-tune the amount of power steering assist from 0% to 100%. It includes a test mode, back-up battery, and the ability to return to the original OEM effort level for other drivers.
No visible components
: The modification is internal and does not add any visible components to the vehicle's interior, maintaining the original look of the dashboard and controls.
